Anyone looking for a crash course on the "contemporary" should head to New York City over the coming weeks.
A recent blitz of the city's nonprofits and commercial spaces revealed one of the best seasons in years.
Right now, an art trip to New York needs to start with the better part of a day spent at P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center, in a huge old school in Queens.

Fifty carefully selected galleries will set the pace for the modern and contemporary Latin American art market in New York, during the celebration of PINTA, the annual Latin American art fair, which is slated for November 19 to 22, 2009 at the Metropolitan Pavilion y B. Altman Building, in Chelsea, New York.

By my count, it has been more than six years since the curators at the Yale University Art Gallery organized a show of contemporary art in all media.
That is difficult to understand, given that the museum collects in this area and primarily serves students, including those studying at the nearby Yale School of Art.

A museum-quality exhibit by a French Impressionist master and his descendants will open from 6 to 9 p.m. today at New River Fine Art Gallery on Fifth Avenue South in Naples.
The exhibit will feature works by Camille Pissarro, a founder of the Impressionist movement, and four succeeding generations of his family of painters.
The show's lineage ends with works by Pissarro great-granddaughter, Lelia Pissarro, 46, who will be at the opening today and who will give a lecture from noon to 2 p.m.

For centuries, Jesus has been a subject of choice for countless artists.
But it's fair to say that seldom has he been depicted quite like this.
In artist Jon McNaughton's One Nation Under God , Jesus stands front and center at the nation's capitol, holding the Constitution and surrounded by such historical luminaries as George Washington and such contemporary archetypes as "Mr. Hollywood."
